Coatings, Adhesives, Sealants, and Elastomers (C.A.S.E.)

Stepan combines over 50 years of surface and polymeric science expertise to bring new ideas and technologies to the C.A.S.E. markets. We manufacture polyester polyols, powder resins, as well as surfactants for emulsion polymerization and coating additives.

Our products are manufactured and tested to industry standards throughout our global production facilities. We employ chemical engineers and process chemists to best meet the evolving needs of our customers.

Powder Coating Resins

Stepan provides a broad range of high-quality RUCOTE® powder coating resins, manufactured to ISO quality standards and backed by focused technical support. Formulators can achieve desired coatings performance like high- to low-gloss finishes, standard and super-durable weathering, excellent chemical resistance, and anti-graffiti applications.

Polyols for Adhesives

Stepan supplies aromatic and aliphatic polyester polyols that are specifically engineered to meet the diverse and demanding requirements of the adhesive industry, including binders. Stepan specializes in polyesters for use in polyurethane reactive hot melts (PURHM) as a technology and polyurethane flexible packaging adhesives. 

Polyols for Liquid Coatings

STEPANPOL® polyester polyols offer formulators many options including raw materials for radiation-curable oligomers or polyurethane dispersions (PUDs). They can be used as building blocks in 1K coatings or as the primary reactant in 2K coatings. Depending on product grade, these polyols offer hardness, flexibility, solvent resistance, and/or weatherability.

Polyols for Elastomers

STEPANPOL polyester polyols can provide formulators UV-stable resins with superior tensile and tear strength as well as solvent, oxidation, slip and abrasion resistance. 

Emulsion Polymerization

Stepan leverages core technologies of sulfonation, alkoxylation (both ethylene and propylene oxides) and phosphorylation to offer a full line of surfactants for emulsion polymerization. POLYSTEP® surfactants are used in systems consisting of acrylics (including styrene, vinyl and 100% acrylic), vinyl acetates, styrene butadiene and alkyds.  Stepan surfactants demonstrate efficiency, consistency and value-added performance benefits.

Stepan’s extensive range of surfactants for C.A.S.E. provides formulators with the solutions needed to tackle today's toughest formulating challenges. From multifunctional additives to pigment dispersants or from emulsifiers to functional monomers for emulsion polymers, Stepan has the chemistry and expertise to help.

Our STEPCOTE™ line of multifunctional wetting agents are designed to provide sustainable and functional solutions for waterborne acrylic systems in architectural and industrial applications.
